Living with chronic pain or illness can negatively affect your life in many ways and prevent you from enjoying the quality of life you deserve. Some people find their condition changes the way they live in many ways. They may find their mood is affected, their sleeping patterns are disturbed, they become more dependent on others and they put off enjoying hobbies they once looked forward to. In short, their pain or illness becomes a large part of who they are.

Some of the treatments on the market can make the condition worse and add more problems. If you’re dealing with a condition which hinders your ability to enjoy life the way you once did, you should consider acupuncture. Unlike medication which masks pain and can lead to dependency and other side effects, acupuncture works by stimulating your body’s own inner healer.

How does Acupuncture Work?

Medical conditions are caused when there is stagnant or interrupted energy in the flow within your body. When acupuncture is performed it both stimulates and harmonizes the flow. This is what causes your body’s inner healer to kick in and begin healing your illness or injury. Acupuncture also releases endorphins, which are your body’s natural pain killers. This will help you promptly begin feeling better.

What is the Procedure Like?

Most people feel very little discomfort and find the sensation is much less than receiving an injection. The needles used in the treatment are much different than the needles in a syringe. They are solid, fine and flexible. The needles are sharpened more like a pencil tip and this allows them to fit between muscle fibers. This translates into much less discomfort for you. Some people describe the needle going in as a little pinch and others don’t feel it.

When you go in for an acupuncture session, you’ll be made to feel as comfortable as possible on a cushioned table or chair. The acupuncture needles will be inserted into specific areas in order to trigger the healing process. They will remain in for a certain period of time depending on the acupuncture treatment you require. Many people find it helps to listen to relaxing music during the treatment.

What are some of the Conditions Commonly Treated with Acupuncture?

Some of the most common conditions many turn to acupuncture to help with include, but are not limited to:

Arthritis

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Back, neck, shoulder and knee pain

Sciatica

Eye, ear, throat and nose conditions

Gastrointestinal Disorders

Circulatory Disorders

Immune Disorders

Respiratory Conditions

Gynecological Issues

Musculoskeletal and Neurological Disorders

Addiction

If you’re dealing with chronic pain, illness or another physical or emotional problem then you should give some serious thought to acupuncture. You may find it is the treatment you’ve been hoping for.
