Lemon – The Wonder Fruit

The lemon fruit is packed with a lot of vitamins and mineral making it a fruit of great medicinal importance. Lemon is acidic in taste but alkaline forming in the body. This makes it great for balancing the high acidic environment of the body.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF LEMON

Anti cancer : It contains anti cancer agents including naturally occurring limonene oil which slows or halts the growth of cancer tumors in animals and flavonol glycosides which stop cell division in cancer cells.

Weight loss: Lemon contains pectin, a soluble fiber that has been linked to weight loss.

Dental care: Lemon is frequently used in dental care. Apply fresh lemon juice to toothache to get rid of pain. You can also massage lemon on gum to stop bleeding and to eliminate bad odor associated with various gum diseases. It is used to freshen breath after eating certain foods like onions.

Foot relaxation: It’s aromatic and antiseptic agent makes it useful in foot relaxation. Add some lemon juice to warm water and dip your feet in the mixture. It relaxes your feet and muscle.

High blood pressure: Lemon juice contains potassium which makes it useful for treating diseases like high blood pressure and heart disease.

Throat infection: It is good for treating throat infection because of its antibacterial property.

Eye disorders: It improves symptoms of eye disorders including diabetic retinopathy due to rutin found in them.

Insomnia : Lemon balm combined with other calming herbs such as chamomile removes anxiety and promotes sleep.

Bug bite: Add add 20 drops of lemon oil to 1 cup of water and spray into the air to repel insects.

Digestion: The lemon acid will stimulate the production of stomach acid and the activity of stomach muscles (peristalsis). This promotes bowel movement and prevents constipation.

Pain reliever: It has pain-relieving qualities. The fragrant volatile oil helps relax blood vessels and produce an anti-inflammatory effect.

Bone Health: This fruit is high in vitamin C which promotes calcium absorption and fights osteoporosis. Potassium supports bone health by neutralizing metabolic acids.

Nausea and vomiting: Drink a glass of lemon juice diluted with some water to help with travel sickness and nausea. You also suck on lemon wedges to subside nausea.

Varicose vein: Lemon can fight varicose and spider veins because of its muscle strengthening ability

Respiratory problems: Lemon juice assists in relieving respiratory problems and breathing problems such as asthma due to its high vitamin C content.

Common cold and flu: This fruit is rich in flavonoids and citric acid which helps fight infections like common cold and flu.

Fatigue and anxiety: Lemon balm has a calming effect and therefore may be able to help remove fatigue, exhaustion, dizziness, anxiety, nervousness, and tension. Inhaling lemon also increases concentration and alertness.

Restores PH balance: Although acidic to taste, lemons are one of the most alkaline of foods and help to push our bodies to the required pH alkaline state.
