Faith and a belief in a higher power can be very powerful tools for recovery from alcohol abuse and addiction. Research studies and scientific evidence has shown that faith can be a big factor in relapse prevention, and that a belief in god can be very beneficial during substance abuse treatment. Christian alcohol treatment centers often have better success rates and lower relapse numbers than programs which do not have a spiritual aspect and faith based component.
Typical treatment centers address the physical and psychological components of an addiction or substance abuse problem but the spiritual component is ignored. Drugs and alcohol are used in order to fill a void inside or to dull physical and mental pain. The void is usually caused by a loss of connection with god and a lack of a higher purpose in life.
Those who restore their connection with God will usually do better at eliminating alcohol use once and for all.
Christian alcohol treatment centers can fill in the void and emptiness that is felt, and help minimize the psychological pain. Psychological trauma can also cause an individual to abuse alcohol, and this can be in the form of physical, sexual, or emotional abuse as well as significant violence. Until god is accepted back into the life of the individual these traumas can not be put to rest and they will continue to cause triggers that usually lead to alcohol abuse and addiction. Until faith is restored the user can not fully recover and get permanent results.
Overcoming Addiction is almost impossible on our own, it isn’t till we realize that we are powerless, we do not have it in our own strength to be healed from Addiction. This is when we have to let go and let God step in, he Created us he can Heal us. Once we begin the process of accepting that we alone cannot do anything to stop addiction, that is when the healing starts.
Early AA and 12 step programs we founded on Biblical Principles, Some people compare it to 1st century Christianity. The members were continually meeting, fellowship and growing together in the Lord. Helping one another, keeping each other accountable, encouraging, and supporting. When you have all this Recovery looks much more attainable. Its no longer us on our own.
Attending a Christian alcohol treatment center further amplifies the Recovery experience, helping to provide the tools for growth and Recovery.
