Just about everyone has a medical problem of some sort whether it is a problem with our eyes, our ears or any other part of our bodies. We have made tools to help us combat these problems. For people with visual problems, we give them glasses; in the case of hearing loss, hearing aids were created to help fight hearing loss. Unfortunately, people in society are very opposed to wearing assistive hearing devices; people are often ashamed to be seen in public wearing their hearing aids. There should be no shame in getting a hearing aid; they are there to help just as people with glasses use them to help their eyesight and no one has shame in wearing those. Not only that, if we need hearing aids because our doctors tell us we need it, we shouldn’t argue with them. When it comes to your senses: good hearing is just as important as anything else which is why we made hearing aids to help. Without the help, then life will become much more difficult and there will only be pain.
No one ever likes to go to an ENT (ear nose and throat doctor) or an audiologist (a doctor which is specialized in hearing) who has the painful job of telling an individual that they suffer from hearing loss and that they will need a hearing aid. Many people will deny it and argue that hearing aids are not needed for them; they claim it will be too embarrassing in public to wear one. The thinking behind it is understandable, but they should see the benefits of the hearing aid and not the bad side. In reality, it is just like wearing glasses all except it is for your hearing as opposed to your vision. Not only that, but hearing aids are so small now that some can even be inserted inside of the ear; the only way to even see one would be to stare directly into the ear and the only people who do that are doctors. Anyone else who looks into your ear and judges one negatively for such is a reason as getting help when needed is a pathetic person who you should have any concern with. Everyone else should be fine with you no matter what and will be glad that you will be wearing your assistive hearing device.
If the audiologist or any medical hearing professional tells you that you are in need of hearing assistance of any sort from hearing aids to cochlear implants, do not get angry with the doctor; they are not the cause of the loss, they are only messengers. It may be upsetting to hear that but in reality, they are trained professionals and very few people really understand how hearing works. Wearing hearing aids does not change you as a person; you will still get up and do your daily routine. If you do not wear the hearing aids, then your hearing loss may affect you in everything from socializing with friends to work. Hearing is a vital part to everyday life; if it wasn’t, then no one would have made hearing aids to help those with hearing loss. The technology is here to help us and we should not be ashamed to take advantage of it to better our lives.
Whenever the audiologist recommends hearing aids it can be very upsetting to hear. You should never be ashamed of wearing your hearing aids. No one will be able to really see them and they will help you live a better life than trying to live without the assistance of a hearing aid. Imagine how hard it would be to have a conversation with a friends or the difficulty you would have just making a phonecall. Fortunately, the technology is better than ever as time is passing and society is slowly, but gradually is becoming more understanding to those with problems hearing. Someday hopefully it will be as acceptable as seeing someone with glasses.
