What is bulimia?
Bulimia – in our time, it is quite common mental disorder. At the heart of bulimia is a sharp increase in appetite, food absorption in large quantities and the paradoxical desire to cleanse the body from eating, fear of gaining weight. It is the latter differs from bulimia uncontrolled overeating (binge eating). People with bulimia are closed in a vicious circle of a strong appetite on the one hand, and the same strong dissatisfaction with their own overeating on the other. In an attempt to save weight, they resort to the most extreme measures. Independently in their own cause vomiting, put an enema, use laxatives and diuretics, taking a variety of drugs for weight loss. Often people suffering from bulimia are trying to console himself with promises to abstain from binge eating "from tomorrow". After a couple of "tomorrow" days, a feeling of inability to control the situation and as a consequence – depressed mood.

The consequences of bulimia
While seemingly harmless at first glance, bulimia, it is quite serious consequences for the entire body. The most common ones are: periodontal disease, caries, menstrual disorders, amenorrhea, decrease in intestinal motility, constipation, enlargement of the colon, violation of the pancreas and kidneys.
In severe cases may develop chronic throat irritation and hoarseness as a result of the constant due to artificial vomiting, cracked and bleeding esophageal mucosa in the esophagus.
Treatment of bulimia
If the development of bulimia is in its infancy, it is enough of the course of psychotherapy. In severe cases, the patient is sometimes advisable to put in the hospital, and more likely not to treat bulimia, and to remove the complications it caused. In these cases, drug therapy is conducted with the use of antidepressant medication and special diets. Just an important component of the treatment of bulimia is dosed physical exercise along with a system of rewards for compliance with the rules of common therapies.
