The worst thing about the monster Stress, is the fact that one can be stressed when trying to deal with stress.
Yes! It is more-less double stress.
Well it is rather tricky to define stress in a standard way but I defined Stress as a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances. In short, let just call it ‘something that drives you emotionally and physically nuts’. Very subtle things in our lives cause it. Something funny about it is, we may just know that we are stressed but not know the source.
Stress is defiantly emotional and psychological, since it affects systems in our body. It is for this reason that it affects the bowel movement. In most cases, it results in irritable bowel syndrome. Doctors have confirmed that most patients suffering from this disorder are victims of stress. Therefore, to treat this disorder, they have to treat and manage stress then all the other body systems will be in line.
Stress is a psychological condition. Therefore, treating it and finding ways to cope with it starts with first knowing the source of your condition. The source of stress is never obvious. In most cases, they are simple things that we might overlook as part of our daily routine.
For instance: it may be that you are constantly worried about work deadlines, your kids’ safety or even the many demands in you work place. The cause of your situation may lie in your thoughts, feelings or behaviors. To successfully deal with your stress, you must know and isolate the cause. Then your attempts to treat it will be successful.
Well! I do not enjoy going ‘nuts’ about anything, everyone likes being in control.
It is the reason why we keep coming up with strategies, methods and ways to do things that are logical. However, sometimes we find ourselves in situations where we are not in control. This can result in stress. When you keep trying to be in control all the time, you get worried constantly about how things will turn out. You may also end up being disappointed and stressed over results that you had no control over. The best way to deal with this is know what you cannot control and what you can control. This way, you will learn to think and worry about the things you can control and will help you accept the outcome whether disappointing or not.
Have you ever seen people closing their eyes to think of a happy place or moment to relieve stress or anxiety? I know, they look silly when doing it but it works. When you are stressed out because nothing is going your way, the results you got are disappointing or you are not in control, thinking of that happy moment or doing something you love helps take the pressure off.
It helps you focus positively on the task at hand and helps you to remember that you are not always in control. It also re-assures you that you are capable of doing a lot better.
Realize the difference between worrying and caring. When you get the difference between the two, you will be able to reduce the stress. Worry is not action oriented. For instance: when you are away from home on a business trip, you worry about your plants every single day until you come back and find the withered. The fact that you worried about them, did not water them.
Caring on the other hand is action oriented. When you care about something, you will not worry about it. Instead, you will do something to ensure that all goes well. For instance: when you are away on a business trip, you will find someone to take care of your plants while you are away. This will relieve you from stressing yourself while away.
When you do away with stress, you are not only sure you wont ‘punch’ anyone in the streets unceremoniously but also sure that your body is in a healthy condition. If you think you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome but not sure, take our questionnaire at http://ibsdoctor.org/ibs-test to find out.
