Botox for hemorrhoids – you read that right. Botox is made from botulinum and botulinum is now being used to treat hemorrhoids. I want to tell you a little more about it and then encourage you to try a natural hemorrhoid treatment instead.

You are familiar with Botox or botulinum injections for wrinkles; it turns out that botulinum injections can help more than wrinkles. Although its use in treating hemorrhoids is relatively new and still being evaluated it is looking promising. Of course botulinum is not called Botox when used to treat hemorrhoids but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck as they say.

Botulinum is a naturally occurring toxin that has been made famous for its use removing wrinkles in a process known as Botox. In addition to that it has proven useful in treating movement disorders, tremors, muscle spasms, and now hemorrhoids.

Although botulinum is normally harmful to people (it is the naturally occurring poison that causes botulism), like so many things when used in small amounts can have beneficial effects. Botulinum blocks messages to the muscles making them unable to contract and so become rigid. In hemorrhoid treatment the medicine is injected into the anal sphincters and it also causes the circulation in the area to be enhanced.

Hemorrhoids are caused by pressure on the veins around the anus. Blood vessels around the anus dilate and become inflamed. This results in the bleeding and pain of hemorrhoids. With the Botox type treatment anal muscle spams are stopped and blood circulation increases relieving the inflammation which reduces the pain and bleeding.

Amazingly this treatment is a good alternative to hemorrhoid surgery although other medicines must still be used to attempt to heal the hemorrhoids. In other cases Botox has been used to reduce pain after hemorrhoid surgery and studies have shown that patients need a lot less pain medicine when this is done. A botulinum treatment for hemorrhoid care turns out to be relatively safe when administered by qualified medical personnel.

Natural Hemorrhoid Treatment

Although it amuses me to talk about “Botox for hemorrhoids” there is nothing amusing about hemorrhoids. If you are a sufferer you want solutions and there is no better solution than healthy eating. It is not an immediate solution but when used with other natural solutions healthy eating is the part that will keep you hemorrhoid free as it also does its part to relieve your suffering.

Many hemorrhoid sufferers lack proper amounts of fiber in their diet. Not just fiber but healthy fiber from fruits and vegetables, particularly green leafy vegetables. Along with increasing fiber in your diet drink lots of water. These simple changes will not only make your stool pass easier it will also makes you healthier and can cause you to lose weight.

Being overweight is another major cause of hemorrhoids. Anything that increases pressure in the anal area can trigger hemorrhoids. So get the fiber rich diet going, couple it with a little exercise. Change your life a little and end this problem. The great thing about doing this is that by doing something about your hemorrhoids you will also be doing something about real or potential high blood pressure, diabetes, digestive problems, and a host of civilization created diseases.
