Why is post workout nutrition important? Simple answer… The body needs nutrition after a workout to recover the muscles. The sooner you consume food after a workout, the better. I prefer to have something immediately after my workout.

What should I consume after a workout? The best things to consume after a workout would be easily digestible carbohydrates and proteins. For example, Whey protein mixed with water becomes liquefied and is then considered an easily digestible protein in comparison to a food solid such as chicken or steak.

Easily digestible proteins such as whey, makes it easier on the digestive system, and the body can then spend most of its attention on getting the protein source to the muscles instead of spending too much of its attention on the digestion process. When consuming foods after a workout, think “liquefied”.

Now the same goes for carbohydrates. You want a carbohydrate that is liquefied, such as juice…

Do you have to buy these things at a nutrition store? No not necessarily. Personally, I think post nutrition supplements are way over priced. If you want to save money, you can easily drink regular milk for your protein, that’s all whey is, really…

But with drinking regular milk you wont get as much protein in a single serving. Just know, that the regular milk option IS available if you’re running low on cash; the choice is yours. For carbohydrates, you don’t need to buy a supplement, it’s real simple actually. Just drink juice such as grape, orange, or whatever you like the most.
